Role: Graphic Design, Pre-press Production
Overview
2016 marked the start of UC San Diego’s current brand identity and new brand guidelines that laid the foundation for how the university communicates its mission and vision of being one of the world’s leading research and academic institutions. And as a Creative Services and Publications designer working under the Chancellor’s office, I was responsible for creating a variety of new marketing collateral that expanded on the university’s new visual design language.

Graphic Design, Pre-press Production
Using UC San Diego’s new brand guidelines, I was responsible for adding to the university’s visual design system with the redesign of its annual commencement programs. These newly redesigned programs featured a gold foil stamp of the university’s crest and were some of the first print pieces unifying the visual design of each college under the same system.
Additionally, I developed production workflows in Indesign to help alleviate previous typesetting and copy-editing bottlenecks during production. With a combination of GREP styles and Data Merge procedures, I automated the majority of the manual data entry for the thousands of student names, degrees, and awards.

2017’s UC San Diego Commencement Weekend ushered in the university’s second-annual All Campus Commencement Ceremony. And the newly invigorated tradition featured His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama as the keynote speaker. As part of a more extensive suite of event collateral, these event tickets I designed featured unique section identifiers and foil stamps to help staff authenticate and usher guests to their correct locations.
