Role: Lead Designer
The 2016 UC San Diego All Campus and College Commencement Programs ushered in a unified design system for all of UC San Diego commencement program collateral. And it was also one of the first designed products showcasing new branding from the university’s rebrand earlier that year.
Design Automation in Indesign
Previous to UC San Diego’s campus-wide rebrand, in consultation with the Creative Services and Publications (UCPA) department, each of the six colleges that make up the university was responsible for the design and production of their material. After the 2016 rebrand, that responsibility fell under UCPA. I became responsible for managing the new design and production process for the entire suite of program collateral, creating systems to help streamline production for the six concurrent projects. I used a combination of the following to help do so:
- Regex and Excel formulas for structuring CSV content
- Indesign Data Merge to map imported CSV Data
- Indesign GREP Styles to automate paragraph, character, and object styling
